The communications for the Whitehall Police Department is handled by the Washington County Department of Public Safety. The Department of Public Safety's Communications Center is located in the main complex at the County Building in Fort
Edward, NY.
The Communications Center is manned 24 Hours a day by highly trained Communications Officer's and Supervisors, all of
which are trained in EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch), NYSPIN (New York Statewide - Police Information Network), handling
of 911 Calls/Emergency Situations. The Department of Public Safety's Administration is headed up by the Director, William Cook.
The Communications Center handles the dispatching for 10 EMS agencies, 2 of which are in Vermont, 36 Fire Departments, 9
of which are in Vermont, and 7 Police Agencies, including the New York State Police units from the Granville & Greenwich
Stations, Washington County Sheriff's Office, and 4 Village Police Department's. The Department of Public Safety also
dispatches for the Social Services Department, Public Health, Hospice, County Coroners, and the Department of Public Works.

The Communications Center is equipped with 4 fully functional Consoles that all are equipped with a Positron Power 911
Phone System, and Power CAD Systems, as well as the Motorola Centracom Elite Dispatch System. The Center also has a
Call Taker's console that is equipped with the full Positron Power 911 and Power CAD system. Each console is capable
of receiving land line and cellular calls, as well as communications on 14 Radio Frequencies with all Public Safety Units
as well as area Communcations Centers.

The Department of Public Safety also maintains a Mobile Command Post - referred to as the "Field Comm".
The Mobile Command Post is available to all Public Safety agencies in the area, for an assortment of incident types.
The Mobile Command Post has responded to all types of incidents, including Searches for Missing/Wanted People, Large Scale
Rescue Incidents, Major Fires (Including Fatalities), Hazardous Materials Incidents, Major Crimes. The Mobile Command
Post is available at the request of the Incident Commander at any incident. The Command Post is housed in the County
Complex in Fort Edward, and all of the Department of Public Safety's personnel are trained in its operation.
