The purpose of this Online Form
is to notify the Police Department that you will be away, so that Officers on patrol can help keep an “Extra Eye”
on your home. Home Checks are performed during slow periods of routine patrol,
in between calls for service.
The Whitehall
Police Department will make every effort to check your property at least once on every shift, no guarantees can or will be
made as to how often checks will be made, or that your home will not be broken into.
In addition to filling out this form, homeowners should
also take the following precautions before departure:
- 1. Arrange to have mail and newspaper
deliveries picked up by a neighbor.
- 2. Set interior/exterior lights
on timers to give the impression that "someone is home."
- 3. Notify neighbors of your travel
dates so they can be on the lookout for strangers near the property.
- 4. Leave a key with a relative
or neighbor in the event that the police or fire department need to enter your home in an emergency situation.
- 5. Notify the police
department if you return early, so that you will not be mistaken as an intruder.
